SECURITY 2024 – GOOD OR BAD?

The start of a New Year full of Hope and Promise for all, but for Security in America, there are ominous trends that should not be ignored.

Trend 1  –  2023 Gun Violence Crime Statistics:

18,836 Gun Violence Homicides

36,522 Gun Violence Injuries

656 Mass Shootings

40 Mass Murders

50 Law Enforcement Officers Killed

368 Law Enforcement Officers Injured

2024 is the year where security should be taken seriously!

Trend 2 – Illegal Immigration:

December, 2023 saw a new monthly record of migrant apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border exceeding 225,000 during the first 27 day of the month. (does not include individuals not apprehended)

(Source CBP)

It is estimated that more than 8 million illegal immigrants entered the U.S. in 2023. It is not known how many of these individuals are criminals due to a lack of available records and sparse vetting procedures at the border. It is known that a number of those apprehended have been identified as being on terrorist watch lists, or otherwise linked to terrorist/crime organizations.

As an aside, there is a well held belief in law enforcement that when considering who commits crime in a population:

10% of the population are totally honest.

10% of the population are totally dishonest.

80% of the population may be tempted by opportunity.

Even lowering the totally dishonest section to 5%, does that mean that there may be some 400,000 new criminals who have entered the U.S.?

Trend 3  –  Antisemitic Protests & Incidents:

Mainly due to the Israel-Hamas War, there has been a staggering increase in antisemitic incidents and public protests. The Anti-Defamation League said it recorded 2,031 antisemitic incidents nationwide between Oct. 7 and Dec. 7, which is up significantly from 465 incidents during the same two-month period in 2022. The latest numbers represent a 337% increase in reports compared with last year. It is also the highest number of any two-month period since the ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents in in 1979.

In addition, there has been violent protests in major U.S. cities including the blocking of major roads, entry to airports and mass transit hub centers.

Trend 4  –  Emboldened Criminals:

Due to No Bail Laws in major cities and a reluctance on the part of many district attorneys to enforce the law as enacted by refusing to charge arrested criminals, or reducing what should be severe sentences to misdemeanors or allowing repeat offenders to go free, many criminals are emboldened to continue committing criminal acts, knowing that there will be no penalty.

Bottom line, Security Preparedness will be a crucial factor for a majority of organizations throughout 2004 and based on many years of experience in the security field, there are countless numbers of existing security systems and measures that are far from the level of protection required.

Terrorists think outside the box and don’t care about regulations and procedures, current protesters appear adamant in creating violent and increased upsets to public transportation, and criminals are becoming more and more emboldened with respect to assault, robbery and worse.
